Lexie & Kylie's Surgery

I just realized that I haven't posted any pictures from when Lexie and Kylie had their surgeries. This was Kylie's second surgery within 19 days. Her first surgery she had half of her thyroid taken out and her ACL repaired. I wanted her to have both surgeries at the same time so she wouldn't have to go under anesthesia twice, but I guess that didn't really work out when the doctor found out that Kylie had cancer in her thyroid. She had to go back in to get the second half of her thyroid out.  Warning if you have a weak stomach you might not want to look at some of these pictures. The girls are doing really well. They have to go back to the cancer doctor in June to have another scan, which it sounds like they will probably have to do this at least once a year for the next five years. Just to make sure that the cancer doesn't come back.

 

 

We had to have Lexie to the hospital at 6:00am. Her "friend" Levi came for support.

This is Lexie after surgery, when they brought her back to her room. When the nurse found out that both of the Jones that were having surgery that day were sisters, she went to talk to some people. The girls had to spend the night in the hospital to make sure that their throats didn't swell and cut off their airways. When she came back she said I have arranged for both of you girls to be in the same room with each other. Kylie was so excited.

 

Kylie had to wait until like 3:00pm to come in for her surgery. Which really sucked for her because she couldn't eat or drink anything before surgery. She was pretty thirsty.

Yes that is a drainage tube coming out of her neck. Yes it is draining blook. The doctor actually stitches that tube into their neck so it doesn't come out. When he took their tubes out I couldn't believe out long the tube that was in their neck was. It was at least 6 inches long. Kylie took a video of the doctor pulling her tube out. I will have to see if I can have her send it to me so I can post it.

We were watching a movie. When you have hypothyroidism or in the girls case no thyroid at all you often get really cold. Lexie was really cold. She is wearing sweat pants, wool socks, two shirts, a sweatshirt, and her hat. She said that she finally got a little warm, but not much.
